First CANOC Week Celebration – Dominica

CANOC week progressed on an exciting note in Dominica with some of the National Affiliates hosting activities in conjunction with the Dominica Olympic Committee (DOC).

The week began with a Church Service on Sunday 4th March at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Roseau at 9:00 am. In attendance were the DOC Executive, staff and some affiliates. President Doctrove was given the opportunity to address the congregation on CANOC week.

Two of our Affiliates hosted activities to mark the day. The Dominica Cycling Association hosted a Cycling competition while the Dominica Amateur Athletics Association hosted a national Track and Field competition at the Windsor Park in Roseau.

On Monday 5th March, the DOC President and the President of the Fencing Association Mr. Woody Lawrence along with two of his fencers visited the Dominica Grammar School and the Pioneer Preparatory School to speak to the students on CANOC week and to introduce them to one of the Olympic sports. It was expected that on Wednesday 7th the team would visit the two schools in the rural areas of Dominica to make similar presentations.
