From Gold Coast – St. Vincent
SWIMMING – Dillon Gooding timed 27.93 seconds, while Alexander Cyrus returned 28.12 seconds, placing third and fifth in the 50m butterfly at Thursday’s opening swim events of the XXI Commonwealth Games taking place on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia.
In Heat two, Nikolas Sylvester also clocked 27.93 seconds to be sixth.
Also, Cruz Halbich did one minute 08.08 seconds to end eighth in the 100m breaststroke.
On Friday, Sylvester will be competing in the 100m breast , while Halbich be in the 200m freestyle.
SQUASH – In Squash, in the round of 64, Jason Doyle – St Vincent and the Grenadines’ number one was beaten 3-0 by the Caribbean’s number one- Jamaican- Chris Binnie, 5-11, 6-11, 8-11, with SVG’s number two also suffering a 3-0 defeat to Scotland’s Kevin Moran. Moran won 11-7, 11-8, 17-15.
But, Othniel Bailey came back to beat Hardeep Reel , 3-2, ( 12-14, 4-11, 11-4, 11-6, 13-11 to make it to the round of 32.
Bailey though was no match for Australia’s number one Ryan Cuskelly, losing 2-11, 4-11, 3-11.

In the quarter final round on Friday, Bailey stopped Xavier Koenig 3-1, to reach the last four. Bailey takes on Kevin Moran of Scotland.
Meanwhile, Jason Doyle saw off Sailesh Pala of Fiji to head to the quarter finals, where he meets Shawn Simpson of Barbados in the quarter finals.
Also on Friday, Jules Snagg defeated Jason Ray Khalil of Guyana, 11-7, 11-6, 11-9 in the round of 32, but he was beaten 3-0 by Joe Chapman of the British Virgin Islands.
TABLE TENNIS – St Vincent and the Grenadines was beaten 3-0 by Sri Lanka.
Romano Spencer was defeated by Rohan Manamendra Gedara , 3/11, 6/11, 6/11, while Carlton Daniel went under to Imesh Ranasingna , 2/11, 7/11, 5/11.

And, in doubles play, Spencer and Andre Mitchell were beaten by Ranasingna and Buwaneka Jayasingha Mudiyanselage 11/1, 11/8, 11/4.

Canada blanked St Vincent and the Grenadines, 3 – luv.
Carlton Daniel lost to Zhen Wang, 3-luv, (11-1, 11-2, 11-4).
Romano Spencer was beaten by Marko Medjugorac, 11-4, 11-5, 11-3, and in Doubles play, Mitchell and Spencer lost to Bernadet and Medjugorac also 3-luv. (11-3, 11-2, 11-4).
Daniel, Spencer and Mitchell will be again in action on Friday versus Sri Lanka.
